The History
Celebrating 112 years of skiing, RED Mountain Resort is Western Canada’s original ski resort.
Beginning with the 1890 gold rush brining Scandinavian miners and their love of skiing, the mountains transformed from attracting gold miners to powder hounds over the following century. The mountain’s first ski race in 1897 and Rossland’s first Winter Carnival in 1898 put the area on the map for skiers from throughout Western Canada and the United States.
From the early days of the mountain’s first rope tow in 1936 to its first chairlift in 1947 and up through this season’s opening of the first ski-in/ski-out hotel built in Canada in over a decade, RED has been a welcoming winter destination for visitors seeking pristine mountains surrounded by awe-inspiring vistas.
The Culture
The unique mountain culture of RED and Rossland, BC combines a passion for snowsports and year-round mountain adventures with an eclectic mix of locals in an unpretentious community offering an authentic experience to every visitor. Our passion for powder is only surpassed by our welcoming, Kootenay-style of hospitality.
The charm of our mountain culture is showcased slopeside all winter at the new Velvet Lounge and at the quintessential ski bar, Rafters, filled with nostalgia from RED’s history. Live music, signature drinks, and friendly locals all combine for a vibrant après ski scene like no other.
